SnipReel
Privacy Policy
Last updated 19 October 2026
This policy explains what SnipReel collects, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it and what you can do about it. It covers the SnipReel iOS app, the website at snipreel.app and the servers behind them.
Who we are
SnipReel is run by Red Mug Studios LLC, a Utah limited liability company ("we", "us"). We decide how your data is used, which makes us its controller under data protection law.
Email: support@snipreel.app
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and the account ID our sign-in system (Amazon Cognito) gives you. If you sign up with email, the sign-in system stores a password verifier, not your password. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we keep the email address they share, whether they've verified it, and the ID Apple or Google uses for your account, so we can recognise you when you sign in again. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we get the relay address, not your real one. We also keep a record of each version of our Terms of Service you accepted: when, how you signed in, and which version of the app you used.
- Videos you upload, and everything in them: the picture and sound, the people who appear or speak, and the file's own details, such as its name, creation date, the device that recorded it and, if your camera saved it, where it was filmed.
- Links you paste, and the title and thumbnail of the linked video.
- What we make from your video: the transcript, captions, a short hook line for each clip, the clips and their preview images.
- Purchases and credits. Your plan, its renewal and expiry dates, Apple's transaction IDs, your credit balance and the charges and refunds against it. We never see your card or payment details.
- Notification details. If you turn notifications on, the push token iOS gives this copy of the app, and whether you opted in.
- Error reports. When a video fails on your phone, the app sends us a short technical description of what went wrong: which step failed, how far the download got, and the network address the video site issued the download for. We keep it with that job's record, along with your app and iOS version.
- Logs. Our servers record technical events for each job, such as your account ID, the job ID, timings and errors, and the IP address, app version and iOS version a request came from, so we can investigate problems and stop abuse. Logs about sign-up and sign-in emails carry a short one-way code derived from your email address instead of the address itself.
We don't collect your contacts, your photo library (only the files you choose), your phone's location, your browsing history or advertising identifiers.
How we use it
- To run your account and sign you in.
- To turn your videos into clips: transcribe the speech, choose the best moments, frame them for vertical screens, add captions and deliver the results to you.
- To sell plans, track credits, give credits back when a job fails, and decide whether your exports carry the free-plan watermark.
- To send the notifications you ask for, and the emails needed to sign up and reset your password.
- To keep SnipReel secure, stop abuse (for example, one person collecting the free credits again and again) and fix problems.
We don't use your videos, transcripts or clips to train AI models. We don't sell your data and we don't use it for advertising.
Our legal reasons (EU and UK)
- Contract: most of what we do is needed to provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interests: security, logs, abuse prevention and the deletion record described below. You can object to these; see Your rights.
- Legal obligation: keeping records the law requires and answering valid legal requests.
Who else handles your data
These providers help us run SnipReel. Each handles your data only to do that work for us.
- Amazon Web Services (US West, Oregon) stores your account, videos, transcripts and clips, and runs our servers. Two parts of that are worth knowing:
- Long videos are transcribed by our own copy of the open-source Whisper speech model, running on our AWS servers.
- Choosing the clip moments uses the Qwen3 language model on Amazon Bedrock, run by AWS. Only the transcript is sent to it, and the model's developer has no access to it.
- Groq (United States) transcribes the audio of videos up to 40 minutes long. Longer videos, and any video Groq can't finish, are transcribed on our own servers instead. Groq sends the transcript back to us. Its terms allow it to keep what it receives for up to 30 days to watch for abuse or fix errors.
- Expo and the Apple Push Notification service deliver notifications. They receive your push token and the message, which includes your video's name (for example, "SnipReel cut 8 clips from Podcast episode 12"). Expo also delivers app updates: each time the app opens it checks Expo for one, sending your phone's IP address, a random ID for this install of the app, the app and update versions, and, if the app failed to start last time, that error message. It doesn't send your account details or videos.
- Resend sends the emails our sign-in system needs, such as sign-up and password-reset codes. It receives your email address and the email's content.
- Apple handles payments. With each purchase we send Apple your SnipReel account ID so the purchase can be matched to your account, and Apple tells us the plan, its dates and its transaction IDs.
- Apple and Google sign you in when you choose them, under their own privacy policies.
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, or to protect our rights or someone's safety.
Faces in your videos
When we crop a clip to vertical, an automatic face detector looks at sample frames to find where faces are, so the speaker stays in the picture. It only works out where a face sits in a frame. It doesn't recognise who anyone is, doesn't compare faces between videos and doesn't create faceprints or voiceprints. The framing data is deleted with the clips.
Videos from links
When you paste a link, the app contacts that website directly from your phone to show the video's title, thumbnail and length. For YouTube links your phone also downloads the video and uploads it to us. For other sites our servers download it. For some sites, when your phone can't get the video's length, our servers also look the link up before you submit it. Those websites see the IP address of your phone or of our servers, and handle it under their own privacy policies.
Data on your phone
The app keeps some data on your phone: your library list, editing drafts, thumbnails, your notification setting and working copies of videos. Signing out leaves it there, ready for when you sign back in. Deleting your account removes it from the phone you delete from. Clips you save to Photos stay in Photos until you delete them.
How long we keep it
- Your videos, transcripts, captions, clips and framing data: deleted automatically about 7 days after they are stored (storage deletion runs shortly after day 7).
- Job records (the video's name, link, thumbnail, status and list of clips): hidden from the app 7 days after you submit the video, then deleted 30 days later.
- Processing history, the step-by-step record our workflow service keeps for each job, which can include the video's name and clip captions: deleted automatically after about 90 days.
- Server logs: 90 days.
- Database backups: 35 days.
- Your account, credits, purchase records and push tokens: until you delete your account. A push token is also removed when you sign out on that phone.
- Sign-up email limits: to stop email abuse, a record that includes the address you signed up with is kept for about two days.
- Failed-processing queue messages, which include the uploaded file's name: up to 14 days.
- The deletion record: see Deleting your account.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account in the app: Account → Delete account. You can delete once your videos have finished processing; while one is still being worked on, the app asks you to wait and try again. Deletion removes your sign-in account, your credits and purchase records, your push tokens, your jobs and every video, transcript and clip we hold. Any file saved after that expires within 7 days, on the schedule above. Unused credits are lost. An active subscription keeps billing until you cancel it in your Apple account settings; we can't cancel it for you.
We keep two small records: a keyed one-way hash of your email address (a scrambled code that can't be turned back into the address without a secret key we hold) marking that its free credits were used, and a note that your account ID was deleted. The first stops the same email collecting the free credits again; the second stops the account being recreated by mistake. We keep them for as long as SnipReel offers free credits, under our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Copies in backups, processing history and logs aren't edited one by one; they expire on the schedule above. If you can't use the app, email us from your account's email address and we'll delete the account for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you and give you a copy (access, and portability where it applies);
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or limit some uses of it, or object to uses based on our legitimate interests.
Email support@snipreel.app from your account's email address. We'll answer within one month and may first ask you to confirm the account is yours. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Where your data is processed
Our servers and data stores are in the United States. Signed links to your clips are delivered through Amazon CloudFront's worldwide edge locations, which cache copies briefly, and Groq's terms allow it to process data in the US and other countries. If you use SnipReel from outside the US, your data is transferred to and processed in the US. Where EU or UK law requires a safeguard for that transfer, we rely on our providers' Standard Contractual Clauses or their certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
California residents
In the past 12 months we collected these categories of personal information, for the purposes described above: identifiers (email address, account ID, push token, app install ID, IP address); commercial information (purchase and credit records); audio and visual information (your videos and what we make from them); and limited technical information (error reports and logs). We don't sell or share personal information as California law defines those terms, and we don't use sensitive personal information to infer things about you. You have the right to know, delete and correct your information, and we won't treat you differently for using those rights. Email us to make a request.
No tracking
The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools (the update check only reports an error that stopped the app from starting), and doesn't track you across other companies' apps or websites. We don't respond differently to "Do Not Track" signals because there is nothing for them to switch off.
Children
SnipReel isn't for children. You must be at least 13 to use it, and older where your country requires a parent's consent before an online service can use your data (up to 16 in some EU countries). If we learn we hold data about a child under that age, we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect.
